The Mango Journey

How to Harvested

Mangoes are generally harvested at physiologically mature stage and ripened for optimum quality. Fruits are hand picked or plucked with a harvester. During harvesting, the latex trickles down the fruit surface from the point of detachment imparting a shabby appearance to it upon storage

How are mangoes packaged and transported?

Mangoes are packaged in a single layer in fruit crates and cartons. Due to their great sensitivity to pressure, the fruit are sometimes wrapped in paper or padded with wood wool, bast, straw or hay. Refrigerated container with fresh air supply or controlled atmosphere

How are mangoes stored in warehouse?

The Controlled Atmosphere storage of mangoes inhibits ripening by reducing the respiration rate and the ethylene production. The optimum for CA mango storage is 3 – 7% O2 and 5 – 8% CO2 . Depending on the variety and stage of ripeness, mangoes can be stored 3 – 6 weeks in CA at 13°C ( 2 – 4 weeks in ordinary cooling).
